biography

Fleshia W. Smalls is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 25 years of experience in mental health and social services. Practicing in both North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, she is dedicated to making therapy compassionate, effective, and accessible for individuals, couples, and families, whether in person or virtually.

Her mission is rooted in connection. For Fleshia, helping others isn’t just a profession, it is a calling. Throughout her career, she has walked alongside children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families as they navigate life’s challenges, fostering resilience, confidence, and hope along the way.

In addition to private practice, Fleshia serves as a Mental Health Clinician with Guilford County Schools, where she provides direct therapy, crisis intervention, and training to students, staff, and families. Previously, she worked extensively as a school social worker, case manager, and program lead, building expertise in counseling, trauma-informed care, and community advocacy. She has also supervised multidisciplinary teams and guided programs supporting adoption, foster care, HIV-affected families, and individuals with complex clinical needs.

Fleshia’s therapeutic approach blends evidence-based practices with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and real-world perspective. She believes therapy should not only be a safe space, but also a catalyst for meaningful change, helping people uncover new strengths and possibilities they may not have realized within themselves.

Her lifelong commitment to advocacy has earned her recognition, including the Debby Reynolds Award for exceptional service to children. Above all, Fleshia is passionate about creating spaces where people feel heard, supported, and empowered on their journey to healing.
